Covid-19: 161 new contaminations, contact cases go back to front

Dakar, August 22 (APS) – Senegal has recorded 161 new infections with the new coronavirus and four new deaths linked to this disease in the past 24 hours, the director of prevention, Dr El Hadj Mamadou Ndiaye announced on Saturday.

The positivity rate stands at 10.73%, said Dr Ndiaye according to whom 1,552 tests were carried out.

The 161 new confirmed cases are made up of 100 contacts followed and 61 others from community transmission, he said in presenting the daily report of the pandemic.

The contact cases followed are thus passed over those whose source of transmission is unknown, putting an end to a trend marked in recent days by a preponderance of community cases.

In addition, the number of cured patients jumped, compared to the previous day, with 168 new healings.

However, 38 other patients are still in the intensive care unit.
