As per research conducted by researchers at Stanford University, no significant weight changes were found between a healthy low-fat diet and a healthy low-carb diet.

In a 12-month weight loss study, which included 609 people, it was found that having whole, unprocessed foods without worrying about calorie intake resulted in similar weight loss for people following both diets.

Reducing calories is very important for weight loss. There is no other way. However, research says focusing on what you eat is more important than how much you eat.
