Councilor Evelien Zinkweg of the municipality of Oldenzaal has contracted the corona virus. Her husband is also infected. That was announced tonight by Mayor Patrick Welman.

The councilor and her partner returned with complaints from a holiday in Austria. According to Mayor Welman, Evelien Zinkweg took her responsibility when she got home and was consciously cautious in social contact with others.
Home insulation
“We fully respect the careful way in which both dealt with the situation in the first manifestations of complaints. Since Tuesday they have been staying in home isolation, on the advice of the GP and the GDD. Finally, a test was carried out on Thursday afternoon, of which today the result came. “
“The infection is of course very annoying for Evelien and the family. Obviously, we have had plenty of telephone contact and I wish her and her husband good luck on behalf of all colleagues.”
Precautionary actions
The mayor indicates that preventive measures have been taken within the municipal organization of Oldenzaal after it was clear that Zinkweg could possibly be infected with the corona virus. “Measures that go beyond the national guidelines, from the care towards our employees and the people they have contact with. We had done this separately from this contamination.”
Employees of the municipality of Oldenzaal avoid personal contact as much as possible and work from home where possible. Meetings that are not necessary are also canceled. All municipal locations will remain open as usual and the essential work will continue.
“By acting appropriately and using our common sense, we can hopefully limit the spread of the virus,” said Mayor Welman.
Twents Carmel College
The children from Alderman Zinkweg’s family attend Twents Carmel College in Oldenzaal. The school management has informed all pupils of the infection in the family. The children of Zinkweg, who are not sick by the way, will stay at home for the time being. This has no consequences for the other students who attend classes at Carmel College.
