Coronavirus: Val-de-Marne will give a fabric mask to each inhabitant

A small but frighteningly useful gift. “Today, April 10, I made the choice, in responsibility, to order 1,500,000 masks for each Val-de-Marnaise and Val-de-Marnais. Christian Favier (PC), the president of the Val-de-Marne department, decided to anticipate the post-confinement due to the coronavirus.

Cloth masks, washable and reusable

While scientific advice converges towards the recommendation of wearing a mask for each person once the confinement is complete, the department has ordered “alternative” masks, made of fabric, washable and reusable.

They will be manufactured in France and delivered weekly from April 27 at the rate of 150,000 weekly copies. The town halls will be able to participate in the distribution of these precious masks to their inhabitants afterwards if they wish.

Already hundreds of thousands of masks for the most exposed

If with this operation, the departmental council now turns to the general public, it had already directed its aid to people on the front line of the epidemic at the start, distributing 220,000 masks to “support services and assistance to homes, independent living residences for the elderly, homes for the disabled, social grocery stores, municipal health centers, charitable associations, municipal social action centers, maternal centers, etc. “

This was the case last Tuesday where the department gave 88,000 masks in a few hours to Créteil to handpicked people for their potential exposure to fragile people and the virus.

At the end of April, he will receive and will also give the 450,000 masks he had ordered from the end of March for “employees in contact with the elderly, the disabled and departmental agents”.

Sixteen cities also plan to offer a mask to each inhabitant

They also decided to take the lead. Several municipalities and an inter-municipality will have tens of thousands of fabric masks made, washable and reusable, to offer to their residents.

In Alfortville, the town hall of Luc Carvounas (PS) bought forty rolls of fabric and rubber bands from a wholesaler in the industrial area and calls on associations and individuals to carry out large-scale production of masks. At first, these quantities will make it possible to make 12,000 to 15,000 masks.

In Cachan, the women’s lingerie company Chantelle has just received an order for 32,000 fabric masks from the city. The brand has been installed there for over 30 years. “These masks will be distributed to the population at the time of the deconfinement period,” said one to Cachan. A mask will be given to each inhabitant. The town specifies that the Chantelle company “has reoriented its manufacturing line, since the spread of the Covid-19, to make masks out of fabrics that meet Afnor manufacturing standards”. During production, they will be delivered “in the coming weeks”.
