The city of Offenbach gives the green light for the planning of two construction projects. As the department head Paul-Gerhard Weiß (FDP) reports, the magistrate has commissioned the planning for a replacement building for the youth center (JUZ) Lauterborn (Charly-Stürz-Heim) as well as an extension for the Humboldt School. The implementation is carried out by the OPG Offenbacher Projektentwicklungsgesellschaft.

A replacement building with around 2,000 square meters of gross floor space is planned for the youth center and its planned expansion to the youth and family center on Johann-Strauß-Weg. According to White, the head of the building department, the building is no longer secure due to cracking; For some time now, several rooms can no longer be used. A refurbishment makes no economic sense, emphasizes the head of department.

Federal and state money

According to an initial rough estimate, the construction could cost 8.9 million euros. 4.5 million euros come from the federal and state governments from the “Social Integration in the District” program, the rest is financed through loans.

An extension to the 610 square meters gross floor area is to be built for the Humboldt School. The then four-course elementary school was built in 1956 and expanded in 1964 with several additional pavilion buildings.

Instead of the pavilions in need of renovation, an extension with a cafeteria, kitchen, office and care rooms is to be built. Three classes have to be accommodated temporarily in containers. Of the estimated costs of 4 million euros, almost 2.8 million euros come from the state and the federal government; the city finances the rest through loans.
