Florence, 10 October 2020 – In Tuscany there are 17,643 cases of Coronavirus positivity, 548 more than yesterday (430 identified in the course of tracing and 118 from screening activities). New cases are 3.2% more than the previous day’s total. The healed grew by 0.3% and reached 10,830 (61.4% of total cases). The tests performed reached 828,114, 11,237 more than yesterday. The percentage of positives among the 7,878 people tested today is 7%. The currently positive are 5,640 today, + 10.1% compared to yesterday. There are 190 hospitalized (20 more than yesterday), of which 30 in intensive care (stable).
It is the first time that Tuscany exceeds 500 daily cases. Already yesterday with 483 the maximum peak reached during the emergency phase, equal to 406 recorded on April 2, was exceeded.
No deaths
Today there are no new deaths. These are the data – ascertained at 12 noon today on the basis of the requests of the National Civil Protection – relating to the progress of the epidemic in the region.
The average age
The average age of 548 cases today is approximately 41 years (20% are under 20, 25% between 20 and 39, 37% between 40 and 59, 14% between 60 and 79, 4% are 80 or older). It should be remembered that starting from 24/06/2020, the Ministry of Health has modified the data collection system on the spread of Covid-19. Positive cases are no longer indicated according to the province of notification but according to the province of residence or domicile.
Cases on the territory
The following are the cases of positivity in the area with the change compared to yesterday: there are 4,998 total cases to date in Florence (150 more than yesterday), 1,177 in Prato (83 more), 1,203 in Pistoia (33 more) , 1,625 in Massa (13 more), 2,141 in Lucca (63 more), 2,136 in Pisa (103 more), 892 in Livorno (22 more), 1,462 in Arezzo (39 more), 791 in Siena ( 31 more), 668 in Grosseto (11 more). There are 550 positive cases reported in Tuscany, but residing in other regions. There are therefore 266 cases found today in the ASL Center, 201 in the North West, 81 in the South East. Tuscany is confirmed in 10th place in Italy in terms of number of cases (including residents and non-residents), with about 473 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (Italian average about 570 x100,000, yesterday’s figure). The provinces of notification with the highest rate are Massa Carrara with 834 cases x100,000 inhabitants, Lucca with 552, Pisa with 510, the lowest Livorno with 266. Overall, 5,450 people are in isolation at home, as they have mild symptoms that they do not require hospital treatment, or are symptom-free (499 more than yesterday, plus 10.1%). There are 12,434 (738 more than yesterday, plus 6.3%) people, also isolated, in active surveillance because they have had contact with infected people (ASL Centro 4.382, North West 5.109, South East 2.943). The people hospitalized in the beds dedicated to COVID patients today are a total of 190 (20 more than yesterday, plus 11.8%), 30 in intensive care (stable compared to yesterday).
The healed
There are 10,830 people healed overall (29 more than yesterday, plus 0.3%): 370 clinically healed people (stable compared to yesterday), that is, who became asymptomatic after presenting clinical manifestations associated with the infection and 10,460 (29 more compared to yesterday, plus 0.3%) declared healed in all respects, the so-called viral healings, with double negative swab. Today there are no new deaths. Therefore, 1,173 deaths remain from the beginning of the epidemic, divided as follows: 423 in Florence, 54 in Prato, 84 in Pistoia, 181 in Massa Carrara, 149 in Lucca, 97 in Pisa, 65 in Livorno, 53 in Arezzo, 33 in Siena , 25 in Grosseto, 9 people died on Tuscan soil but were residents outside the region. The Tuscan crude mortality rate (number of deaths / resident population) for Covid-19 is 31.5 x100,000 residents against 59.8 x100,000 for the Italian average (11th region). As for the provinces, the highest mortality rate is found in Massa Carrara (92.9 x100.000), Florence (41.8 x100.000) and Lucca (38.4 x100.000), the lowest in Grosseto (11.3 x100.000).
