Coronavirus: Russia suspends its flights with Turkey until June

Russia announced this week the temporary suspension of its scheduled and charter flights with Turkey between April 15 and June 1 due to the situation of the coronavirus pandemic in the country, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova confirmed Monday.

During a video conference with other members of the government, Golikova explained that flights with Turkey will resume if the evolution of the pandemic of coronavirus in Turkey shows a positive trend, adding that it will be recommended to Travel agencies in Russia to suspend the sale of Turkey tours as well as Tanzania, an African country with which Moscow has also suspended flights.

Golikova noted however that the suspension of flights between Russia and Turkey – one of the main tourist destinations for Russian tourists- will not apply to both regular flights weekly between Istanbul and Moscow; Likewise, connections by plane will be maintained for Russian citizens working on the construction of Turkey’s first nuclear power plant, the Akkuyu power plant, located in the Turkish province of Mersin.
