Coronavirus. Pediatricians Request School For All Children

By the time the psanitary rotocole can and must be reduced and simplified, all pediatric societies are renewing more than ever their request for the complete and immediate reopening of schools and all the communities from which our children will greatly benefit, plead pediatrician associations in a press release this Friday, June 12.

Signatories include the French Pediatric Society (SFP), the Pediatric Infectious Pathology Group (GPIP) and the French Association of Outpatient Pediatrics (AFPA).

Children excluded because of barrier measures

While schools have gradually reopened since May 11, childcare conditionsare very disparate and sometimes coercive when applied to the letter, or even lead to institutional mistreatment, deplore the pediatricians, who have already launched such calls in recent weeks.

They cite in particular the exclusions of children who do not respect the barrier measures (prohibition of contacts, etc.).

“Less contaminating children”

Pediatricians see these precautions as excessive major paradox when the pandemic is subsiding and the health risk is waning.

Indeed, international scientific data […] confirm that children are less often infected and less contaminating than adults, they point out.

The latest research to make this observation concerns 600 young children and was coordinated by Pr Robert Cohen, vice-president of the SFP.

Assume the role of “protective adult”

It is high time that we assume our roles as protective adults. putting children safe from our anxieties and allowing them to find interactions with children their age, assure the associations of pediatricians in their press release.

In recent days, there have been increasing calls for schools to welcome more students, especially to allow parents to return to work.

According to the latest ministry figures, only 1.8 million school children, out of a total of 6.7 million, have returned to school and rarely full-time.
