The other day, a cashier said when shopping at the till in Essen-Rüttenscheid: “The French hoard red wine and condoms and the Germans toilet paper and pasta: Find the mistake!”
With her saying, the lady caused amused expressions on customers’ faces in times of Corona virus, but she shouldn’t be quite right with her perception.
Coronavirus: Hamster purchases not only for pasta and toilet paper
With a press release, condom manufacturer Ritex responded to the thesis of the different hamster behavior between French and Germans, which is also spreading online Corona virus.
“We cannot confirm that,” says Ritex Managing Director Robert Richter. According to company information, Germans are buying twice as many condoms in the current month as in the same period last year.

Condom supplies guaranteed – production only in Germany
The supply of condoms is certain for the foreseeable future. “We only produce our goods here in Germany and are therefore only dependent on the international supply chains to a limited extent,” Richter can reassure.
