Coronavirus is gaining strength. Many European countries have reported record increases

In many European countries, the weekend was marked by the highest daily gains since the beginning of the epidemic. France reported over 45,000 new cases on Saturday, and Italy over 21,000 today. In the Netherlands, for the first time since the epidemic began, they recorded more than 10,000 infections a day. Britain also reported a high daily balance, where tests revealed infection in almost 20,000 people.

In Germany, the epidemic situation is better per capita than in most European countries, but even there the number of infected people is growing. On Saturday, Germany reported a record over fourteen thousand cases.

The Spanish government today approved a state of emergency due to the growing number of infected. Payment begins today and lasts for two weeks. Across the country except the Canary Islands, the cabinet introduced a night curfew from 23:00 to 06:00 and limited gatherings to six people, except for household members.

Closure of the Italian-Slovenian border

In Italy, stricter measures will apply from Monday. Bars and restaurants will have to close at 18:00 CET, theaters and cinemas, gyms, swimming pools and ski resorts will close completely. In addition, at least 75 percent of high school students must switch to distance learning.

Due to the epidemic situation in northern Italy, the Italian-Slovenian border will be closed on Monday. In Slovenia, too, the number of people infected is growing, as in other countries in the former Yugoslavia, Romania and Bulgaria.

For the first time over the weekend, three Central European countries crossed the threshold of 3,000 confirmed cases: Austria, Hungary and Slovakia. Countries have already responded to the growing number of infected countries by tightening measures: Austria has restricted gatherings, and Slovakia has restricted the free movement of people. In four districts in the north and east of Slovakia, the area was tested over the weekend.

President Duda was also punished

The number of infected is also growing significantly in Poland, where measures have been further tightened. President Andrzej Duda also became infected with the virus, but he is not the only European politician who has announced a positive test. Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov also became infected with the virus. Slovenian Foreign Minister Anžem Logar also passed a positive test on Friday. Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Cichanouska and foreign ministers of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia have been voluntarily quarantined to meet with him.

Not all Europeans agree with the measures taken against the spread of coronavirus. Opponents of anti-epidemic measures clashed with the police in Rome, and police had to intervene against protesters in Naples on Friday. Warsaw and London were also protesting against the measures on Saturday, and today opponents of restrictions took to the streets of Berlin.

In addition to Europe, coronavirus continues to spread in the rest of the world. The United States has already registered over 224,000 deaths with covid-19 and more than 8.5 million people infected. According to the University of Washington model, more than half a million people in the United States could succumb to the disease by February if almost all Americans do not wear veils consistently. Marc Short, head of the office of US Vice President Mike Pence, also became infected with the virus. However, the vice president himself had a negative test.

A pandemic is also one of the main topics in the upcoming presidential election in the United States. Democratic candidate Joe Biden today accused President Donald Trump of surrendering to the pandemic. Biden said this in response to a statement from White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows that the Trump administration would not control the spread of coronavirus, as the vaccine would still solve the crisis.

Infection is also increasing in Latin America. In Colombia, the number of detected infections has reached over a million.

The Czech Republic, together with Belgium, is now one of the worst affected countries in Europe. More than a quarter of a million people in the Czech Republic have been infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus since the beginning of the epidemic. More than two thousand died with the covid-19. Hungary, Austria and the Netherlands have announced that they will help the Czech Republic and send him lung ventilators. Already on Saturday, a shipment of 30 fans arrived, which was released from the crisis medical supplies by the European Commission.
