Germany exceeds the figure of four million infections

Germany has exceeded four million COVID-19 infections since the start of the pandemic, according to updated figures from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for virology. Furthermore, the figures show a slight but continued rise in the weekly incidence.

In total they have been verified 4,005,641 infections, of which 3.7 million correspond to recovered patients and 92,346 to deceased with or due to the virus.

In the last 24 hours they have registered 10,452 infections and 21 fatalities from the disease. The incidence in seven days and per 100,000 inhabitants rose to 83.1 cases, compared to 74.1 a week ago. This indicator had dropped to five weekly cases per 100,000 inhabitants in June, after months of practical closure of public life.

With the gradual reopening of the restoration, shops, cultural and school activities, as well as tourism, began to rise again, although it is still well below the peak reached in December, with a national average of 197.6 cases.

This indicator, considered during practically the entire pandemic the main instrument to adopt restrictive measures or relax them, will soon be replaced by the number of hospitalizations.

With more than 61% of the German population with the full guideline of vaccination, it is considered that the weekly incidence is no longer such a relevant factor, as long as there are no high numbers of serious developments of the disease and fatalities.
