Coronavirus in Poland. Are there talks about another lockdown in the government?

It was not possible to create a system in which we would conduct one hundred thousand tests a day – said Krzysztof Hetman, PSL MEP on TVN24 in “Kawa na pewę”, referring to the epidemiological situation in Poland. When asked if there were talks about further general restrictions in the government, the deputy minister of infrastructure Marcin Horała from PiS replied that “at the moment there is no such situation on the horizon in which it would be needed”.

The Ministry of Health announced on Sunday about 1,350 new cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection. This is the third highest daily increase in infected people since the beginning of the epidemic in Poland. The number of occupied respirators and beds is increasing. Fewer people than a day earlier have been in quarantine, but the number of people under epidemiological surveillance has increased. Eight infected patients have been confirmed to die. Over 18.8 thousand tests were performed during the day. In total, in our country, coronavirus infection was confirmed in 87,330,000 people, of whom 2,432 died.

“Today is as hard to get a test as it was six months ago”

The epidemiological situation was commented on by politicians in “Coffee on the bench” on TVN24.

PSL MP Krzysztof Hetman pointed out that in Poland “it was not possible to create a system in which we would conduct one hundred thousand tests” daily. “It’s as hard to get a test today as it was six months ago when the pandemic began,” he said.

“Tests are important that we find those areas where there are infected people”

Katarzyna Lubnauer from the Civic Coalition stressed that “there is a lack of flu vaccines and this is a collapse for which this government is responsible and that she cannot blame anyone else for it”. – The small number of tests (for the presence of coronavirus – ed.) Results, among other things, from the fact that there has been a collapse (in the system – ed.) Of sanitary inspectors, because there are too few of them, they have too poor equipment regarding computer equipment – she pointed out.

“Tests are important for us to find areas where people are infected and to stop further contamination,” she added.

Will there be another lockdown? “There is no such situation on the horizon where it would be needed”

Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Marcin Horała from Law and Justice was asked whether the government is considering the possibility of introducing another lockdown. “No, there is no such situation on the horizon at this point in which it would be needed,” he replied. As he added, “it is possible to tighten the restrictions in the yellow and red zones, but at the moment there is no talk about their widespread tightening”.

He stated that “if everyone respected the restrictions that are in force now, the situation would be much, much better.”

When asked why fewer tests are performed in Poland than it would be organisationally possible, he replied that “there are specific medical indications for testing”. – If there is a need to carry out extensive screening tests, such as in Silesia in connection with the situation with mines, they are done. If the need arises, they will be done – he assured.

“It is like any other virus, like any other disease”

Artur Dziambor from the Confederation also commented on the situation with the coronavirus. – It is like any other virus, like any other disease, will be with us – he argued.

As he stated, “fear management really doesn’t make sense.” – This coronavirus will not disappear, it will be with us, we will not cure the world of this kind of disease – he added.

“You cynically use it to spread some fake news that there is no pandemic”

Krzysztof Śmiszek from the Left reacted to Artur Dziambor’s words. – What the representative of the Confederation says must meet with absolute opposition from all of us, regardless of whether we are from PiS, from the Left or from the Civic Coalition – he emphasized.

– You are preying on some, in a right way, anger or social emotions. People no longer want to comply with these restrictions, and you cynically use it to spread some fake news that there is no pandemic – he added.
