Italy announced Friday the healing of 2,563 Covid-19 patients in one day, a record since the start of the pandemic in the country where it officially killed nearly 23,000 people. It is “the highest number of healings since the start of the crisis,” said Angelo Borrelli, head of civil protection, however, announcing the death of 575 people in 24 hours.
There are nearly 107,000 sick people on the peninsula on Friday, 355 more than the day before. In several regions, such as those of Turin, Naples or Rome, this figure is even falling.
Another record in Italy is that of the number of tests carried out by the health services, more than 65,000 in one day. However, on this figure, a little more than 5% were positive, again a figure which is “another indicator of the effectiveness of the measures taken in terms of containment to contain the contagion”, according to Franco Locatelli, the boss of the Superior Council of Health.
“On April 3, we had 4,068 intensive care patients, today just over 2,800,” said Franco Locatelli at a press conference.
Angelo Borrelli welcomed that “the pressure on hospital facilities has been clearly eased”. “All of this makes us aware of the great work accomplished in hospitals and the collaboration of citizens,” he added, adding that his press briefings, daily since the start of the crisis, would only be organized on Mondays and Thursdays.
