Corona virus is known to affect the lungs greatly and may cause inflammation in them, so shortness of breath is one of the most important symptoms of infection with the virus, but scientists are still trying to know the effect of the virus on the heart.
Dr. Leslie Cooper, Head of Cardiology at the Mayo Clinic in America, confirmed that individuals with cardiovascular disease are at increased risk of developing serious symptoms of the virus.
According to Cooper, the Corona virus may lead to heart failure (heart failure), and this occurs when the heart muscle does not pump blood properly, or when the heart rhythm is irregular.
She emphasized that these problems that the heart might suffer from may be related to the effect of the virus, or the medications used to treat it.
She added that the effect of the virus on the heart can develop until it reaches inflammation of the heart muscle, due to the systemic inflammatory response to infection, or high lung pressure due to damage to parts of it.
As for the older patients, who suffer from coronary artery disease or high blood pressure.
In younger patients, myocarditis is likely to be caused directly by the infection.
She advised patients to continue taking medications, unless their doctor asked them to stop them.
Because the Corona virus is new, information on the long-term effects that the virus has on the heart and blood vessels is still not available and needs some time.
