Students in North Brabant may have to stay home on Monday due to a teacher shortage
Various media report on Saturday 7 March that pupils in parts of Noord-Brabant may have to stay home on Monday. The school boards do not rule out the fact that there are not enough teachers because of the call of the RIVM for the inhabitants of Noord-Brabant.

Omroep Brabant reports: “Parents who have children at De Lockaert primary school in Oss already know for sure that they will have to look for childcare for children in groups 3,4,5 and 6 on Monday.” The parents hear on Monday before six o’clock in the evening whether there is someone in front of the group on Tuesday, the regional broadcaster said.

The Brabants Dagblad writes on the website that the school boards Filios, SAAM and Signum have made an emergency plan for possible sick notifications. “If a teacher is sick, he must stay home and the entire class may be sent home.” The school boards have informed the parents in a letter that they do not choose to divide groups. “In that case, children are even closer to each other in the group and that is precisely what we find in this specific situation not the desired situation.”

RIVM: schools can just stay open
The RIVM receives many questions about whether schools need to be closed due to the corona virus. The institute mentions Sunday, March 1 on Twitter that this is not necessary.

Children who have been to an area where the virus is prevalent and have cold symptoms should look good at home. In the event of a fever, the doctor should be contacted.

Minister Bruno Bruins in De Wereld Turns Through Corona
On Wednesday evening 26 February, Minister Bruno Bruins (Medical Care) and infectious disease control doctor at the GGD Ronald Schegget will be present at the television program The World Is Running By talking about the corona virus.

In Germany, just across the border at Limburg, the corona virus has been detected in a patient. As a precaution, schools and daycare centers are closed in his place of residence. Is it also necessary that schools and daycare centers close in the Netherlands? “” Contact research is now being conducted around the German corona patient. We expect the results of the contact investigation for the weekend via RIVM’s German colleagues. On that basis we determine which measures must be taken in the Netherlands, “says Minister Bruins. “” We know from the virus that it does not actually occur in children. Infections are high in people over forty years of age. It is not obvious to look for it in schools. Closing schools in the Netherlands is sowing panic, “GGD physician Ronald Schegget adds.

Look for the most up-to-date information about the corona virus on the RIVM website.

Do children check for corona preventively?
Various media reported on Monday 24 February about the request of a school umbrella to have children checked preventively by a doctor if they recently visited an area where the corona virus was detected. This as a result of signals that several families had been on holiday in Italy. According to the RIVM this is not necessary.

The school umbrella stated to RTL that it wanted to create clarity about holidaymakers coming back from the area where the virus prevails: “The message was purely to alert. We do not want to panic, but rather to prevent panic. Parents have also not been on vacation, but they wonder how things should be now if other parents have been to Italy. “

The PO Council strongly advises school boards with similar concerns to keep a close eye on the reporting from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and RIVM. For additional information they can consult the GGD. Frequently asked questions about the virus are answered on the RIVM website.
