Corona Virus: These 7 graphics show what’s going on in the United States
The corona virus has also reached the United States. The number of cases here has increased so dramatically in the past week that it is now the most affected country. Also USPresident Donald Trump is now taking the crisis seriously.
This graphic shows clearly that it is not just a normal flu:

But how is the situation in the United States developing compared to other countries that are badly affected, such as Italy? How much is being tested and who is dying of the Covid-19 lung disease caused by the coronavirus? You can find answers to these questions here:
The international comparison
In addition to the United States, Italy, Spain and France also have a large number of infections with the corona virus:

The US curve is by far the steepest. There are several reasons for this. On the one hand, hardly any measures were taken against the spread at the beginning of the pandemic. The USA also has by far the largest population of these countries.
Basically, the population does not play a major role at the beginning of the spread. The virus spreads according to the same pattern. In the USA, however, several clusters have developed in which the number of cases increases exponentially alongside one another.
It’s not just New York
The cluster in New York is the largest so far. New York City is particularly hard hit. But similar developments are also emerging in other countries:
The second most common case is New York’s neighboring state of New Jersey. However, the number of cases is also increasing rapidly in California and Michigan.
So much is tested
At the beginning of the pandemic, little testing was done in the United States. This has changed in the meantime:
In the 24 hours from March 31 to April 1, 26,000 test results were reported from across the United States. Much of it negative. In the meantime, over a million tests have been carried out:
When were measures taken?
The USA as a state has so far not taken any measures that apply to every state. Similar to Switzerland, the USA is federally organized in this regard. Here’s how each state took action:

The state of emergency already applies in all eight considered states. Washington, for example, issued the health emergency on February 29th.

Florida and Michigan, in particular, waited relatively long with a “stay at home” order (quasi a curfew). In New York, too, the number of cases during the introduction was already relatively high.
The deaths
When the pandemic was still an epidemic in China, doctors found relatively quickly that older and sick people in particular often died of Covid-19.
It can also be demonstrated for Italy, Spain and Switzerland that older people in particular are among the fatalities:
In the United States, older population cohorts are more affected, as the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) repeatedly emphasizes. However, the numbers from New York City show that younger people are increasingly dying from Covid-19:
For most of these younger deaths, however, a previous illness (diabetes, high blood pressure, immune deficiency, etc.) can be proven.
Conclusion
The number of cases in the USA explode. The reasons are several. The virus spreads in parallel in several states. In addition, a lot more is tested. The states have now taken almost all measures, but some of these came rather late.
Data on the deaths in New York is worrying. Unlike in Italy, Spain and Switzerland, more young people are dying here. Here too, previous illnesses are responsible for deaths in younger age groups.
