Corona virus survivable on clothing? The answer is surprising

Jackets, hats, gloves – could these things transmit the new disease? The answer to the question of whether the coronavirus survives in clothing is by no means what you would expect.

Not everyone knows how to deal with the corona crisis in these uncertain times of the global pandemic. And science has still not examined all aspects of the virus. Mankind is still in the dark about the resistance and survivability of Sars-CoV-2 on different surfaces. Can the Corona virus, for example, on clothing to survive?

Can the corona virus be spread through clothing?

Often you take your sleeve to open toilet doors, rub your nose or sneeze in your elbows. Can the coronavirus get stuck in clothing and be passed on to others?

The Robert Koch Institute basically assumes that the coronavirus is transmitted via droplets. So through droplets of saliva expelled when sneezing, coughing or speaking, which spread Sars-CoV-2. However, transmission by smear infection over contaminated surfaces cannot be ruled out in principle.

So it is apparently possible that coronaviruses could stick to clothing or other surfaces and then get into the mucous membranes via the hands. So far, no cases are known in which people have been infected with the novel corona virus through contact with contaminated objects, but in general it cannot be excluded.

The next step would be to investigate how long corona viruses can survive on certain surfaces. Initial studies in this regard have shown that Sars-CoV-2 can last up to 24 hours on cardboard. Up to three days on stainless steel and plastic. How long the coronavirus can survive on clothing has not yet been analyzed.

Conclusion: Corona virus could therefore be transmitted via clothing

It must therefore be assumed that the coronavirus could be transmitted through clothing. In principle, you cannot rule it out. So in this respect too: play it safe and keep your distance from your fellow human beings, wash your hands and go to the door as rarely as possible.
