Government South Korea re-applying lockdown to minimize the rate of infection corona virus. South Korea has banned large gatherings, closed nightlife and churches, and sports activities.
South Korean Health Minister Park Neung-hoo announced the measures on Saturday (22/8/2020) after officials reported 332 new confirmed cases, marking a three-digit increase for the ninth straight day.
“We are now in a dangerous situation which has greatly triggered the spread of COVID-19 nationally,” Park was quoted as saying Fox News.
Most of the new cases were in the Seoul area, which has been the epicenter of the virus wave in recent weeks. But infections have also been reported in nearly every major city and in cities across the country.
The government imposed stricter restrictions on the capital earlier this week, a move it rejected for months on economic concerns.
Korea Center for Disease Control Director Jeong Eun-kyeong urged the country to impose “Level 3” restrictions, effectively shutting down the nation’s total, with a meeting limit of no more than 10 people, closing schools and full returns to work from home for all businesses.
