SERAMBINEWS.COM – A number of Chinese researchers conducted autopsies to find out what happened inside the bodies of Covid-19 patients.
The autopsy was performed by experts from the Fifth Medical Center of the General Hospital, People’s Liberation Army in Beijing.
A 50-year-old man died in late January from the coronavirus.
Previously, he had donated his body to research materials if he died.
As a result, the researchers found conditions similar to the effects of the SARS outbreak.
SARS, which hit southern China in 2002-2003, killed more than 800 people and affected more than two dozen countries.
The man, who was autopsied in Beijing, had initial symptoms on January 14 and died two weeks later.
The researchers found that the alveoli in both lungs were severely damaged.
There was also found an injury to his heart which was probably caused by the Corona virus.
In addition there was less substantial damage to heart tissue, suggesting that the infection “may not directly damage the heart.”
