Corona outbreak on Norderney – but no mutation | NDR.de – Nachrichten – Lower Saxony

As of: 02/12/2021 8:25 p.m.

The alleged evidence of the Corona variant B.1.1.7 on the East Frisian island was incorrect. This was confirmed by Mayor Frank Ulrichs NDR 1 Lower Saxony.

It was obviously a misdiagnosis that a patient died of the so-called British mutation, said the SPD politician. However, this does not change anything about the stricter rules due to a larger corona outbreak on the island. The Aurich district still reported on Friday 43 infected with almost 5,800 inhabitants.

No meetings and night curfews

A contact ban has been in effect for the islanders since Thursday. Meetings with people from other households are not allowed. In addition, a night-time exit restriction was imposed, as reported by NDR 1 Lower Saxony. Between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., you are only allowed to leave your own apartment for a valid reason, for example in the event of a medical emergency. The schools on Norderney were banned from classroom teaching. The corresponding general decrees are valid up to and including February 19th.

High case numbers in the island hospital

According to information from the NDR, the focus is on a senior citizens’ home in Lower Saxony, in which several infections have been reported, and the hospital. Four patients were infected there, three of whom died. In addition, 17 employees of the hospital tested positive. A total of six people died from or with the corona virus on Norderney.
