The Union faction apparently wants to vote against the federal government’s vaccination plans

The new push by the vaccination proponents in the federal government’s camp for a corona vaccination from the age of 60 is met with rejection in the Union faction. According to the “Bild” newspaper, the first parliamentary manager of the Union faction in the Bundestag, Thorsten Frei (CDU), criticized that shortly before the gates closed, new proposals were coming from the ranks of the traffic light coalition. “It’s not serious,” said the CDU politician. He thinks it makes more sense “if they join our concept”. The CDU and CSU are proposing a “Vaccination Prevention Act”. A vaccination register is to be set up and a “graded vaccination mechanism” introduced, which can be activated by the Bundestag and Bundesrat depending on the pandemic situation. On Thursday, several applications for compulsory corona vaccination are to be voted on in the Bundestag.

Lauterbach overturns plans for voluntary isolation

The one planned for May 1st There shouldn’t be voluntary isolation of corona infected people now. This was announced by Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) on the ZDF program “Markus Lanz”. He will withdraw the suggestion that infected people decide for themselves whether to isolate themselves. If someone gets infected, there will still be an order from the health department. However, the isolation period should be reduced to five days. Lauterbach justified his about-face with the – literally – negative and devastating signal that came from this new regulation. Today Lauterbach added that although it is not possible to check whether infected people are following the isolation orders anyway, people have come to the conclusion that they now think Corona is harmless. That’s more of a shame than sticking to the de facto obsolete isolation notices.

However, it is unclear whether and how the federal states will react to Lauterbach’s new announcement. They had previously been asked to implement the abolition of the mandatory quarantine. Lower Saxony, for example, has already done this. Also Hamburg had announced the implementation, in Schleswig-Holstein Health Minister Garg praised the plans. Lauterbach wants to officially comment on the isolation rules again today.

RKI: Nationwide seven-day incidence continues to fall

The nationwide seven-day incidence has continued to fall. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants per week in the morning at 1,322.2. The previous day the value was 1,394.0. A week ago, the nationwide incidence was 1,663.0 (previous month: 1,231.1). The health authorities in Germany reported 214,985 new infections to the RKI within one day. A week ago there were 268,477 infections.

When considering the values, it must be taken into account that individual states do not report data on every day of the week, and at weekends, for example, Baden-Württemberg, Lower Saxony and Brandenburg do not, or only partially, report data. This in turn leads to late registrations on the following days. A comparison of daily values is therefore becoming increasingly difficult.

Seven-day incidence in Lower Saxony continues to fall

25,028 new corona cases were reported for Lower Saxony today. (Previous day: 33,011; previous week: 33,071). However, Lower Saxony no longer reports any new cases to the RKI at the weekend, so that there are late reports in the following days. The individual daily values are therefore hardly comparable with one another. The seven-day incidence of new infections in Lower Saxony continued to fall and is now 1,564.6 (previous day: 1,658; previous week: 1,975.7).

Do gargles and an FFP2 mask protect against omicron infection?

The mucous membrane in the mouth and throat plays a decisive role in the multiplication of the corona virus – especially in the case of the more contagious subvariant Omicron BA.2. Gargling is now recommended in addition to wearing FFP2 masks. Since corona viruses multiply in the throat area at the very beginning of the disease, they can be rinsed from the mucous membrane in this phase by gargling with salt water, tea or mouthwash. It is important to gargle for at least 30 seconds and let the liquid penetrate into the throat.
