The city of Kiel is postponing the Kiel Week from June to September – like last year. The new planned period is from September 4th to 12th, 2021.
Kiel would like to be able to offer as many offers as possible for free, outdoors and for everyone. According to the city, the sailing and summer festival should offer more encounters and spontaneity, more ease and more events this year. Last year, the Kieler Woche had already set an example for sailing and the event industry in Corona times.
Mayor hopes for Kiel Week closer to the ‘original’
For Kiel’s Mayor Ulf Kämper (SPD), the relocation is the logical decision in view of the current corona situation: “With the expansion of the test strategy and the progress with the vaccinations, we will hopefully be in a situation in September where a Kiel week is closer to ‘Original’ will be possible. ” The Kieler Woche lives from spontaneity and special community experiences. The city wants to make this possible for the people of Kiel and the guests. “Of course we cannot rule out the possibility that a cancellation will be necessary despite the postponement,” said Kämper clearly.
