Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The addition of the increasingly serious Covid-19 case has finally returned to Malaysia to carry out a total national lockdown for all social and economic sectors starting Tuesday (1/6) until June 14, 2021.
As reported, Straits Times Friday (28/5) the announcement was made by Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin. This comes shortly after Malaysia reported 8,290 new cases of Covid-19, the highest daily record since the pandemic. This brings the total cumulative cases since the start of the pandemic in Malaysia to 549,514 cases.
“Only important economic and service sectors will be allowed to operate,” Muhyiddin said.
The urge to lockdown total had appeared before Muhyiddin’s decision. Previously, the Sultan of the State of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar, asked the Malaysian government to consider a full lockdown. Sultan Ibrahim released a statement on Wednesday (26/5/2021) evening, the same day the country reported 7,478 cases of the new coronavirus. .
“More than 7,400 cases alone today. This is scary and we need almost all aspects of society to stay at home to break the chain of transmission,” Sultan Ibrahim said.
