Corona infection increases in Myanmar | ABC News

The number of infected people has increased sharply since mid-May, at the same time as there is a great shortage of oxygen.

Under Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar recovered fairly well through the second wave of infections in August last year through strict closure, travel restrictions and the isolation of Yangon.

Suu Kyi was constantly on TV to warn, and the country obtained vaccines from India and China.

But the coup sparked widespread street protests and strikes among health workers who spearheaded the protests, and the health system is now on its knees. Military hospitals are open, but most stay away from them.

The health authorities stated on Saturday that 4,337 new cases have been registered, with a total of 188,752, and 71 new deaths, so far a total of 3,756. As many as 25 percent of those tested test positive.
