This method relies on obtaining blood plasma from donors who have recovered from the virus, which can be an effective treatment for patients.

The Ministry of Health said on Saturday that up to 5,000 patients who are in a serious condition can be treated with blood plasma every week, as part of a new method to treat the virus.

Health Minister Matt Hancock said: “I hope this treatment will be a major milestone in our fight against this disease.”

The plasma, taken from former Covid 19 patients, can be transferred to patients who struggle to produce antibodies against the virus inside their bodies.

The Ministry of Health said that the so-called recovery plasma was used as an effective treatment during the outbreak of SARS, between 2002 and 2004.

She added that “in parallel with the general randomized clinical trial, the government is promoting the general plasma collection program so that treatment can be widely circulated if proven effective.”

The plasma collection will be increased during April and May, to deliver up to 10,000 units of plasma to the public health system per week, enough to treat 5,000 patients “coved 19” per week.

Corona virus infection in Britain has risen recently, to more than 143,000, including nearly 20,000 deaths.
