Covid-19, ISS monitoring: cases on the rise. National Rt at 1.01

The bulletin shows that there are 12 regions with a transmission index greater than 1. The median age of cases has risen to 42 years. The first outbreaks were also reported where transmission may have occurred within the school setting

The latest report from the Ministry of Health and the Higher Institute of Health, concerning the dissemination of coronavirus in Italy and referring to the week 21-27 September, it certified the return, above 1, of the contagion RT in our country: “In the period 10-23 September 2020, the RT calculated on symptomatic cases is equal to 1.01”, reads the weekly monitoring report. Basically, an increase is confirmed in the new cases reported for the ninth consecutive week, with a cumulative incidence in the last 14 days of 34.2 per 100 thousand inhabitants (period 14 / 9-27 / 9 against 31.4 per 100 thousand inhabitants in the period 7 / 9-20 / 9). In the week under consideration, a slight increase in the median age of children was observed almost (42 years against 41 the previous week).

In particular, the data emerges according to which there are 12 Regions with an Rt greater than 1 in the last week. Overall, “a total of 3,266 active outbreaks were reported, of which 909 were new, both increasing for the ninth consecutive week, while in the previous week of monitoring 2,868 active outbreaks were reported, of which 832 new ”. In general, outbreaks have been identified in almost all the provinces (101/107), underlines the monitoring. Despite the increase in active outbreaks, the Regions reported “3,026 new cases not associated with known transmission chains (+ 13.7% compared to the previous week)”. As regards, however, the transmission context, the percentage of outbreaks developed in the family remains stable (76.5% of all active outbreaks compared to 76.1% the previous week). It also increases the percentage of outbreaks occurred in the workplace (7.2% against 5.6% last week) and the number of outbreaks associated with recreational activities decreased (4.5% compared to 6.3% the previous week).
