Normally, the fairground operators would swing their rides at this time and run laps at village and city fairs across the country. But due to the corona outbreak, thousands of operators have been stalling their attractions for weeks.
Corona fair
“The fair season starts from March. But almost all fairgrounds are covered by licensed events, which are now banned until June 1,” said Sipkema. “We have no income.”
The fair operator owns, among other things, a ‘ghost villa’ haunted house and a Breakdance and, together with two other operators, came up with the initiative to look into the possibilities for a possible ‘corona fair’.

We don’t want to sit still or be found pathetic, Sipkema explains the initiative. That is why operators of about thirty attractions have come to Apeldoorn to see how they can comply with the corona measures. “Otherwise they’ll just stop.”
In addition: “Prime Minister Rutte calls on all branches to think about what is possible. That is why we will also start working and investigate the possibilities in the coming week.”

There are already about thirty attractions on the Van de Valk site along the A50 in Apeldoorn. “Such as a break dance, oliebollen stall, bumper cars and a Ferris wheel. It is a funfair that many a village would be jealous of. Next Wednesday we want everything to run and we will investigate.”
Definitely not easy
It will be a very tough job, predicts Sipkema. “Because how do you keep the distance of one and a half meters, for example, in attractions with carts? And how do you deal with all the audience and with rows? In many attractions, the audience sits or stands side by side.”
That will be a huge puzzle, says Sipkema. “But we are going to try it anyway. There will be several people who understand that it is safe. It is also a great way to bring the beautiful world of the fair back to the attention. Moreover, we have all kinds of fun actions. We remain positive and like to think along. “
