Corona certificate now also mandatory for 1.8 million employees in France | Abroad

Today a new phase starts for the “pass sanitaire” or the corona certificate in France. This is now also becoming mandatory for a range of employees, especially those who are in contact with customers, including restaurants, cinemas, museums, amusement parks or the intercity and high-speed trains. It concerns about 1.8 million people, calculated BFMtv.

The corona pass was already mandatory for the customers themselves. Not only wage earners, but also volunteers and subcontractors who are in contact with the public are subject to the obligation. Employers in those sectors have until 15 November to check the certificates of their personnel. As an ultimate sanction, employees risk suspension of their employment contract.

The government will supervise the control by the employer. According to a government spokesman, the obligation will be handled “flexibly and tolerantly” in the first week. However, sanctions could follow afterwards, such as an administrative closure.

By Sunday, more than 48 million French people had already received at least one dose of the corona vaccine, accounting for 71.8 percent of the total population. About 64.6 percent are fully vaccinated.

At the well-known store chain Galeries Lafayette in Paris, a trade union has called for a strike against the mandatory corona pass. But not all unions in France are on the same page.

End of mandatory telecommuting

In addition, the mandatory number of days of telework in France will come to an end due to the corona pandemic. The obligation will expire on Tuesday evening, the French Minister of Employment Elisabeth Borne announced on Monday.

From 1 September, it is therefore up to the companies themselves to determine the rules regarding telework. According to the minister, trade unions and employers’ organizations were requesting this. There has been a relaxation since 9 June, allowing employees to return to the office several days a week.

In our country, teleworking is no longer “recommended” in Flanders and in Wallonia, but it is still in Brussels, where there are many more infections with the corona virus. Companies in Flanders must draw up a work from home plan.
