SOS Mitmensch calls for the refugee camps to be evacuated before there is a coronavirus outbreak. “Every day counts,” warns the human rights organization.
“When, if not now, is the right time for cross-border solidarity and help?” Asked SOS fellow spokesman Alexander Pollak. His organization asks the government to follow Germany’s example. “Germany is currently accepting 1,600 refugees from Greek camps, mostly sick children and families. Austria also manages this minimum of help, give yourself a push, Federal Chancellor!”
SOS Mitmensch warns of a potential disaster in the refugee camps. In view of the confinement prevailing in the camps, the extremely precarious hygienic conditions and the insufficient medical care, the corona virus could spread rapidly.
“Doing nothing now would be fatal. Action must be taken quickly before the virus reaches the camps. Every day counts!” Said Pollak.
