With a nationwide study, the Helmholtz Center wants to record the number of unreported cases of corona infected people – also in Freiburg and the surrounding area. The old town hall becomes a test center.
Several thousand citizens from the district and the city will receive mail in the next few days. You are invited to take part in a corona study that will run in Freiburg and the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district in August. The aim is to determine how many people have developed antibodies against the virus. The participants – a number of 3,000 is hoped – will also receive a personal test result as to whether they may have been infected without developing Covid-19 symptoms. Anyone who has antibodies in their blood is at least temporarily immune to the new virus.
A test center will be set up in the old town hall
As reported, the study is part of a nationwide study by the Helmholtz Center for Infection Research, which is being carried out in eight to ten districts in Germany. The aim is to determine the spread of the coronavirus in the population and the unreported number of asymptomatic courses.
Anyone who is written to and agrees to participate can make an appointment for a blood sample in Freiburg via a telephone hotline or online. A test center will be set up there in the old town hall at the measuring station especially for the study. It is organized by the Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe.
Employees of the association from all over Baden-Württemberg will be on duty from August 5 to September 2, every day except Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., taking blood samples from around 130 test subjects and questioning them. In addition, there will be mobile teams who come to study participants’ homes if they are immobile or have acute respiratory infections. Test subjects receive the personal test result a few weeks after the blood sample has been taken. Participation in the study without invitation is not possible.
