Minister of Environment and Water Responds to Boyko Borisov’s Warning About Assembly Stability

The first comment from the “Denkov” cabinet about how stable the “assembly” is after Boyko Borisov’s warnings this morning came from the Minister of Environment and Water, Julian Popov. The leader of GERB said earlier that for him “the assembly does not exist at the moment” because of the “unprincipled behavior of PP-DB”. According to Minister Popov, “waving a finger is not fatal, but “public warnings that we must discuss”. A comment also came from MP Venko Sabrutev, according to whom Borisov’s words were “pre-election passions”.

“Listening to the nonsense they are talking about, I don’t know if the parliament will start working next week,” the GERB leader expressed concern earlier today.

The first response on the subject came from the Minister of Environment and Water. In front of journalists Julian Popov said that according to him, the government is working well and that he does not see its end for now.

“I think that the tensions between two parties or two coalitions in one assembly, is it a plot, is it a coalition, what is it, are completely normal. It is completely normal during an election campaign, elections, for these sentiments to escalate, just regardless of the aggravation of sentiments and language, we must be focused on the program we are carrying out and the tasks we have,” added Popov, quoted by BTA.

Earlier today, GERB leader Boyko Borisov also commented on the topic of the state budget, which, according to the minister, is useful for the country’s financial framework.

According to Popov, “it will be a very high price for the budget to become a victim of pre-election disputes”, but he noted that it is normal to have different views and agreement, disagreement. Popov pointed out that he sees a good sign – “finally the budget is becoming a central topic of Bulgarian politics”.

“It was a big failure for many years of Bulgarian politics, that the budget was somehow passed as some kind of bureaucratic procedure. The fact that now there is a lot of debate on it, that there are quite heated, different, opposing views, is good and it is hoped that this process will continued.

We have to be calm and focused and handle the pressure and know that to manage is to constantly be in crisis mode and to work in crisis mode and not let crisis situations distract you from what you are doing . When it comes to finger wagging or social media exchanges, I wouldn’t take that as fatal, perhaps as signs, public warnings and so on that we need to discuss, comply with or deal with somehow with them, but not as something that would put an end to a difficult but, in my opinion, successful project”.

In principle, concessions should be made from both sides and not only from both, but from many sides, because the budget is a very complex instrument, commented Popov in response to a question. According to him, they should concentrate on being well balanced and most importantly to meet the goals of the three percent deficit, for the implementation of other basic infrastructure and social programs. I think the budget is balanced in this regard. Of course, like any budget, more can be requested and I hope it will pass successfully, added the minister.

Venko Sabrutev, a deputy from the PG “Continuing the Change – Democratic Bulgaria”, commented that in his opinion these are pre-election passions and “all this will settle down after the elections”.

“It is a fact that lately Mr. Borisov often jokes. The serious things are that if there is no reform in the services, which with their active action managed to steal the vote of over 400 thousand Bulgarians, it will be really difficult to move forward Sabrutev added.

He was adamant that “the active event that the services carried out” is a serious point that should be discussed by the parties supporting the government.

To a question related to the adoption of the budget, which was questioned by Borisov, if certain infrastructure projects are not supported, Sabrutev commented that he believes that these are pre-election passions and when they return to the parliament, things will settle down. Mr. Borisov likes to joke, tomorrow we expect a new batch of jokes, the deputy also said.
