Coordinating Minister Hadi Tjahjanto Visits PP Muhammadiyah to Discuss Susi Air Pilot Hostage Situation and Papua Crisis

Jakarta

Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security (Menko Polhukam) Hadi Tjahjanto visited PP Muhammadiyah. There, they discussed the post-election political situation and the issue of the Susi Air pilot being held hostage.

“Secondly, we asked about the issue of Papua, especially regarding the issue of security and political dynamics in Papua and he has already conveyed some of it, including the pilot who was held hostage by this group of people,” said the Secretary General of PP Muhammadiyah, Abdul Mu’ti, when met at the PP office. Muhammadiyah, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (28/2/2024).

PP Muhammadiyah admitted to providing advice to the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs regarding efforts to free the Susi Air pilot. Hadi explained all efforts for liberation.

“We didn’t say anything specifically, but at least he said a lot that the problem must be resolved by involving many parties,” he said.

“Not only with militaristic approaches, but there is also an approach that he also conveyed in part, involving religious leaders, religious institutions, and indeed the complexity of the Papuan problem needs to be carried out with a welfare approach,” he explained.

Mu’ti felt that there was a need for the involvement of Christian or Catholic leaders. “I think maybe friends from Christian or Catholic circles have more access to Papuan problems because the majority of the Papuan population are Christians and Catholics,” he said.

PP Muhammadiyah itself supports all approaches to freeing the Susi Air pilot. However, it does not prioritize a military approach.

“We agree that and all peaceful approaches, peaceful approaches, which do not prioritize a military approach, I think are more acceptable to the Papuan people,” he concluded.

Previously, Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri revealed that there was a third party who was hampering the negotiation process to free the Susi Air pilot who was being held hostage by the KKB. In fact, according to him, it was hoped that the negotiation process would reach a good point.

“Earlier we also said that in November, December (2023), early January (2024) we hope to reach a good point. However, there are other parties who are deliberately obstructing, obstructing the negotiation process that has been carried out. and wanting to reach this common ground has not been successful,” said Mathius after receiving a visit from the New Zealand police, Monday (26/2).
