Taleb explained in a statement to the American website “Aswat Magharebia” that the Algerian mission in Germany recorded the disappearance of the players from the ranks of the team and informed the authorities in Algeria and the regionally competent German police.

She added that the players left all their personal belongings in their hotel rooms, to avoid drawing the attention of their colleagues and officials of the mission, noting that the Algerian Handball Federation is awaiting the results of the German authorities’ investigations into the incident.

German media sources, which reported the news of the escape, suggested that the Algerian players in the youth handball team would apply for asylum.

The head of the Algerian Handball Federation, Karima Taleb, revealed the identity of the players, who are the 21-year-old player, Fatisa Noureddine, and the 19-year-old player, Chaib Adlan.
