The story of New Year’s Eve is quite simple. Sokol with Háma, who are supposed to host the show, get stuck in the elevator. The director Kohoutek and the producer Slepička (also Sokol with Háma, but in disguise) are therefore bypassing well-known moderators, in case they don’t take it for them. But Leoš Mareš (47) throws a tantrum in the car because of them, Karel Arrow (78) will burn for their fault in the Semafor theater, John Grandpa (51) falls down the stairs during a video call and Libor Bouček (43) stabs the knife thrower.

In the shadow of tragedy
This type of black humor did not suit many viewers, but the problem arose mainly with the skit with Jan Kraus (70). When Rooster and Hen come to him, a figure with a long gun in hand looks out from the skylight of the house! He starts shooting at the director and producer, they hide where they can, and finally quickly leave. At other times, the sketch might seem innocent, but in the shadow of the tragedy of December 21, when a gunman shot and killed 14 mostly young people at the Faculty of Philosophy in Prague, it seems insensitive. Especially since the creators used a similar type of weapon and also shot from the roof.
Aggravated reactions
The reactions of Nova TV viewers on Facebook did not take long. “Absolutely shocking! New Year’s Eve and on TV Nova a long gun and shooting at two people in the forest. I don’t know if I should cry or throw up! What are they doing to us…” the viewer Mária gets excited. “Incredibly embarrassing. Disgust. If they just played the songs, it would have been a million times better.” says user Martina. “New Year’s Eve should be cheerful and not all about murder,” adds Jana.

Why didn’t they cut it?
One is left wondering why this particular skit remained in the show. It was obviously filmed before the tragedy, but if the creators had cut the approximately one-minute sketch, nothing would have happened…
