Controversial Comments by Italian Prime Minister’s Partner Spark Outrage

Opposition parties are now asking the Prime Minister to distance himself from his comments.

This is reported by several media outlets, among others British The Guardian.

The journalist Andrea Giambruno is a presenter on the TV channel Rete 4, and has several times made controversial statements. Last in the series about rape, during a broadcast on Monday where the recent many rapes in the areas near Naples and Palermo were discussed:

– If you go out on the town, you have every right to get drunk. But if you avoid getting drunk and passing out, then maybe you also want to avoid getting into trouble, because then you risk “meeting the wolf,” Andrea Giambruno said on his program on the Rete 4 channel, according to the Italian news agency Ansa.

With the term “wolf”, he allegedly refers to rapists.

Run away from the bill – the prime minister paid

– Can’t help it

The comment has caused a storm on social media, and many believe that Giambruno engages in “victim blaming”, i.e. that he places the blame on the victims.

Cecilia D’Elia, senator for the Democratic Party and vice-president of the Commission of Inquiry into Femicide, comes down hard on the Prime Minister’s partner.

– They just can’t stop blaming women. “Don’t go out alone, don’t go where it’s dark, don’t dress provocatively.” None of this is acceptable anymore, she says and continues:

– If a girl drinks too much, she can expect a headache – not rape.

D’Elia is supported by the high-profile Italian journalist Enrico Mentana, who lashes out at Giambruno for “talking nonsense”, according to Ansa.

Shock SMS: – Brutal

– Haven’t done anything wrong

The opposition party M5S, the Five Star Movement, says in a statement that Giambruno’s statement is unacceptable and shameful, and that it represents a male-dominated and old-fashioned culture.

After all the reactions, Giambruno used Tuesday’s broadcast to, among other things, respond to the accusations. However, there is little humility to trace:

– If I had said something wrong, I would have apologized. But that is not the case and it will never happen that a politician can tell me what to say, he says.

– I said that rape is an abominable act. I took the liberty of telling young people that they shouldn’t go out and get drunk on purpose, or use drugs. I advised them to be careful because unfortunately there are always bad guys out there. I have never said that men have the right to rape drunk women, he adds.

Giambruno’s TV career really took off after Meloni became prime minister in October. according to Sky News The Prime Minister has not commented on his partner’s latest comments.
