Controversial app stops selling visitor parking hours in The Hague | NOW

The developers of the controversial app LekkerParkeren have informed the municipality of The Hague to stop using the app with which they resell visitor parking hours for residents of The Hague. The municipality warned residents Thursday for the app, because the developers asked Hagenaars for a fee to hand in the login details of their parking permit for visitors.

The company then used the data to resell parking hours intended for visitors to users of the app. LekkerParkeren has been distributing leaflets in the municipality since January and the app has been active there since last week.

The municipality warned its residents that misuse of the visitor’s permit could lead to the municipality withdrawing the permit. The visitor’s permit is intended for visitors to residents of The Hague. For example, friends, caregivers and family members of Hagenaars can park in their street for a small fee.

Alderman Robert van Asten (Mobility) is pleased that LekkerParkeren has listened to the objections of the municipality. “It’s good that LekkerParkeren now decides not to offer the app anymore and to stop the promotional activities around the parking app as quickly as possible,” says Van Asten.

The app can still be downloaded in the App Store on Friday morning. The developers of the app were not immediately available for comment.
