Connoisseurs of British royal family saber new film ‘Spencer’ …

The brand new film about the British Princess Diana, with Kirsten Stewart in the lead role, is razed to the ground by connoisseurs of the British royal family. “Atrocious” and “unnecessarily gratuitous”, it sounds in the British press, among others.

A beautiful image of the late Princess Diana, who died in a car accident in Paris in 1997, gets the viewer’s attention from Spencer not. The brand new film with Kristen Stewart in the role of Diana is a biopic, in which the life of the princess is portrayed. She comes across as an emotionally unstable and broken woman who struggles with dark thoughts and self-injures.

For example, Diana can be seen fantasizing about throwing herself down the stairs or strangling herself with the collar that Prince Charles bought her. A lot of attention is also paid to her eating disorder – you can see how she makes herself vomit after eating. In addition, she hallucinates about her own death.

angry and hurt

Not exactly flattering, and according to experts of the British royal family also a fiercely exaggerated image. That’s what those experts say in some British newspapers after Thursday night’s premiere at a film festival in London. For example, there is Richard Fitzwilliams, who calls it “horrific” how the film shows Diana throwing up and injuring herself. “I very much doubt that William or Harry (the sons of the deceased princess, ed.) will look at this. Fortunately, the director admits that it is his interpretation of the facts, as he has envisioned it. That is his right as a filmmaker. But the film isn’t dramatic enough to make for good cinema and Kristen Stewart is very flawed as Diana.”

Ingrid Seward, Editor-in-Chief of Majesty Magazine, is also not nice. “It’s horrific to portray her like that. That is completely unnecessary. William and Harry will be very angry and hurt. They are going to hate that their mother is portrayed like this in a huge movie.”

“Unnecessarily gratuitous”, is also the opinion of royal biographer Penny Junor. “All I can say is: arme William… Let Diana still have some respect and dignity. I know William was there when she was unhappy, but the film actually doesn’t seem too accurate to me.” A reviewer from The sun adds that there is “unnecessary mud throwing at the princess”.

What is striking in the reviews of the film is that there is a lot of praise for the way in which Kristen Stewart has mastered Diana’s actions, the way of speaking and the accent.
