Congress Leader Alleges Death Due to Karuvannur Cooperative Bank Fraud: Vincent Chitilappalli’s Death

Dublin/Thrissur – Congress leader and former MLA Anil Akkara has come forward with allegations that the reason for the death of Vincent Chitilappalli (72), a resident of Thrissur Iringalakuda Karuvannur, who died last day in Ireland, was fraud in the Karuvannur Cooperative Bank. An allegation has been made by sharing the news of Vincent Chitilappalli’s death through a Facebook post.

Anil Akkara says through a Facebook note that Vincent had invested in Karuvannur Bank and had invested the main part of his savings here, but now Vincent’s family is in a financial situation even to bring the dead body to the country. Thrissur MP T. N. Anil Akkara says that efforts have been started for this under the leadership of Prathapan. Anil Akkara also urged that there should be urgent government assistance to bring the dead body of Vincent Chitilappalli to the country.

Vincent Chittilapalli and his wife Tara Vincent in Ireland

Vincent Chittilapally passed away due to a stroke at around 1 pm on Sunday in Drogheda, Ireland. Vincent and his wife, who arrived in Ireland in 2005, were still living in a rented house. Since their children were in the country, Vincent and his wife Tara Vincent wanted to make their retirement life in the country. Following this, Tara, who worked as a nurse at Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, invested in Karuvannur.

After the information about the fraud in the bank came out, they contacted to get their deposit back, but it was not available. Following this, his wife Tara Vincent responded by confirming Anil Akkara’s accusation that Vincent and his family were in severe mental distress and financial difficulties. Their children Thushara Vincent and Amulya Vincent are married and live in the country. Son Abhay Vincent is also a student in UK.

Vincent Chittilappilly, who was an early member of the Drogheda Malayali Association, was very popular with the Malayalees of Ireland. It has been decided to perform the cremation later in the country. Various Indian organizations, including the Drogada Malayali Association (DMA), are working with the family to bring the body home and complete the follow-up. They have started a local fundraiser for Vincent’s family. Arrangements have been made so that the amount is available to Tara’s bank account.

Last June, the police discovered that the manager and the accountant, including the manager and the accountant, had stolen 300 crores through loan and investment fraud in the Karuvannur Cooperative Bank with the knowledge of the CPM governing body. The members of the governing body, including the bank president, and six employees, including the manager, were arrested. As the incident became a huge controversy, the government was very defensive in the assembly.

∙ Anil Akkara’s Facebook note:

The Malayali community in Ireland is trying to bring the body of Vincent Chitilappilli, who died as a victim of the Karivannur robbery, to the country. Vincent, a native of Karuvannur, who died in Drogada, Ireland, has deposited all his earnings in the Karuvannur bank. The help of the government is needed to bring the dead body home.

One of the earliest Malayali immigrants to Ireland, Vincent Chittilapalli (72), a resident of Drogheda, hails from Iringalakuda Karuvannur. He belonged to one of the first Malayali families to arrive in Drogheda. Drogada was an early member of the Malayali Association.
