Thanks to the merger of FCA with PSA, Lancia became part of the Stellantis Group, whose management gave it room to develop. In the future, Lancia will no longer offer a single model only on the Italian market, its offer is to be stepped up, and it is also to return to other markets. He also wants to return to one famous model.
“We all want Delta, so it cannot be missing from our plans. He will return and it will be a real Delta, an exciting car, a manifesto of innovation and technology, “confirmed Lancia CEO Luca Napolitano himself in an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.
He also confirmed that the new Delta will be launched in 2026. In the spirit of the brand’s new strategy, it will bet on electric propulsion, as Lancia intends to offer only electric cars in the future, from 2026. Management says it is suitable for its innovative character. In the past, Lancia was considered a pioneer of new technical solutions, to which it wants to return.
We do not know more information about the novelty yet. However, we know from earlier statements of the brand that on the design of the new generation of its cars is supervised by the European chief designer of the Stellantis concern, Jean-Pierre Ploué. It has a young team of designers at its disposal, and intends to bet on a clean (Italian) style without unnecessary curls. Apparently, the new Delta will be significantly different from the previous models bearing this name.

In the spirit of placing the brand in the hierarchy of the Stellantis Group, the new Delta will be a premium car. Lancia is to play the role of a premium brand again, alongside DS and Alfa Romeo. While the DS is to take advantage of the French avant-garde style and the Alfa’s coined sporty character, the Lancia is to be a modern Italian elegance.
The technical basis will then probably be provided by the STLA Medium platform, which is nothing more than the innovated EMP2 architecture of the former PSA Group, just renamed according to the logic of the newly created carmaker. It is this technique that is to enable the installation of an electric drive.
In any case, the Lancia Delta is not the only new model that the brand is preparing. He will arrive before her a new generation of the Ypsilon model, planned for 2024. This will be the first example of a new era of the brand. Compared to the current generation, it will change significantly. It will no longer have the ambition to be the second best-selling car in Italy, but it will have a premium character.
