The Norwegian Directorate of Health’s Bjørn Guldvog believes that the new local outbreaks show how vulnerable we are.

Following the press conference on Friday, Health Director Bjørn Guldvog expresses concern about more extensive spread of infection this autumn.

– Now we see an increasing activity in the population. There is a significant increase in the number of people in quarantine and a certain increase in the number of infected in recent weeks. I’m worried about that, says Guldvog.

Three municipalities in Norway now have a rising infection trend, according to VG’s figures: Moss, Haugesund and Sveio.

We now believe that Guldvog «is at a balance point».

– The freedom we have had this summer, it is not easy to buy, he says.

Guldvog emphasizes that Norway is currently in a situation with good control, and that there is a limited number of municipalities that have infections.

– But the situation is not risk-free. There is significant risk in the coming weeks, says Guldvog.

He believes that the new local outbreaks show how vulnerable we are, and that they confirm the importance of following quarantine and infection control rules at events.

– And the fact that we have good systems for infection detection to be able to reduce the infection. Not least that we have a type of openness where we are all concerned that the most important thing is that we stand together and that everyone with symptoms can be tested, says Guldvog.

– Are you worried about a national outbreak?

– There is nothing to suggest that we get a major national outbreak now, but we have no guarantee against it. I am worried about more infection and many local outbreaks and that there may be situations where we get national outbreaks.

The case is being updated.
