Status: December 18, 2021 7:57 p.m.

As on previous weekends, thousands of people took to the streets in numerous German cities. They protested against the compulsory corona vaccination and protective measures in the pandemic.

Opponents of the Corona measures have taken to the streets again in numerous cities in Germany. In Hamburg, according to the police, thousands of people marched through the streets at the demonstration under the motto “The measure is full. Hands off our children”. According to the police, around 11,500 people took part.

The police blocked several important streets in the city center. According to a regulation that only came into force on Friday, all demonstrators – in contrast to the previous weeks – had to wear masks. Jusos, the Green Youth and groups from the left-wing scene had called for three counter-rallies, to which, according to the police, almost 1000 participants are expected.

According to the police, around 1900 people moved through the city center in Schwerin. There were more demonstrators than applicants expected. The organizers spoke of 2300 participants. On posters it was said: “Stop the vaccination madness” or “To Chancellor Scholz: We are the red line”. According to the police spokeswoman, there were many families with children among the demonstrators. The city of Schwerin had made the organizers an obligation to ensure that distances were observed. In addition, according to the police spokeswoman, the participants were “strongly recommended” to wear protective masks.

1000 participants were registered for a protest march in Düsseldorf. The police estimated the number of those actually present at 4,000. The alliance “Düsseldorf is standing across” had registered a counter-demonstration with around 200 participants. According to a police spokesman, everything remained peaceful until late afternoon.

Last weekend, the authorities were surprised by the number of participants in an anti-vaccination demonstration. Instead of the registered 300, around 2500 people came, according to police.

Despite the ban on a planned demonstration, opponents of the Corona rules gathered in Berlin-Mitte. The police spoke of a crowd “in the lower three-digit range” at the Brandenburg Gate. However, this also includes numerous tourists who are not there for a protest. The officers would make sure that no demonstration started, the police had made clear at noon.

In Dresden, several hundred people demonstrated in a car parade against the Corona protective measures. According to the police, 185 vehicles lined up for a rolling protest through the city center. The participants had attached banners and posters to numerous vehicles. They then called for an end to the pandemic-related restrictions and spoke out against compulsory vaccination. “Everything remained smoothly,” said a police spokesman on request.

Some violations of the mask requirement

In Osnabrück, around 1900 people demonstrated against the corona policy of the federal and state governments under the motto “Basic rights are non-negotiable”. Around 200 people took part in a parallel counter rally, as the Osnabrück police announced.

In Hanover, the AfD called for a rally at the Lower Saxony state parliament under the motto “End the 2G madness – freedom for the country and citizens”, at which around 300 people gathered. The protest was peaceful, said a police spokesman. However, the police have repeatedly had to emphasize compliance with infection protection such as wearing a mask and keeping your distance. Another demonstration by the Corona skeptics took place on Opernplatz. The slogan here: “No to warning level three.”

In Baden-Württemberg, people took to the streets in Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Freiburg and Überlingen, among others. Here too, according to the police, the demonstrations were largely peaceful. In some places, however, there were several violations of the mask requirement. According to the police, around 2,900 participants marched through the city center in Freiburg on Saturday afternoon. 300 people gathered there for a counter-demonstration.
