Gas and electricity prices back to record level, ‘don’t enter into a long contract’

Almost half of the households have a variable contract, whereby they will pay more from January. Another almost a fifth have an annual contract, according to the latest energy monitor by the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets. The rest won’t notice for the time being. They have entered into a contract for a longer period of time, most of them for 3 years (28 percent).

Everyone gets a discount on energy tax from the government. That quickly saves tens of euros per month, but the price increase will only partly be compensated for people who have to deal with it. The very lowest incomes receive an additional allowance.
