The shirt worn by renowned actor Colin Firth during his memorable lake scene in the 1995 BBC adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is set to be auctioned in London. This pivotal moment in the TV series, where Firth’s character Fitzwilliam Darcy emerges from the water dripping wet, has become etched in the minds of fans.

Historic Auction Organized by Cosprop and Kerry Taylor Auctions

Cosprop, founded by distinguished designer John Bright (an Oscar and Bafta winner) back in 1965, and Kerry Taylor Auctions will be holding the auction. A staggering collection of over 60 costumes from various films and TV shows, including the iconic Pride and Prejudice shirt, will be up for grabs. With an estimated value ranging from £7,000 to £10,000, the shirt is expected to attract strong bidder interest.

A Proud Piece of Cinema and Literature History

Colin Firth’s remarkable portrayal of Mr. Darcy has forever solidified his place in the hearts of viewers. This particular scene, dreamily captured as Firth walks the fields half-dressed and drenched, has become an undisputed classic. Not only has it inspired a memorable reimagining in the Netflix series Bridgerton, but it has also been referenced in Bridget Jones’s Diary, solidifying it as an iconic moment on screen.

The auction boasts extraordinary items, including an exquisite vintage 1950s Christian Dior taffeta ballgown worn by Madonna in the 1996 film Evita, which is estimated to fetch between £40,000 and £60,000. Johnny Depp’s costume from Sleepy Hollow is also on the auction list, expected to sell for an impressive £20,000 to £30,000.

Other notable items from Evita include a pink satin evening coat, a beaded taffeta ballgown, original lyrics by Tim Rice for the iconic Don’t Cry for Me Argentina, a Trifari brooch and earrings, as well as a stunning blue and purple silk dress.

Moreover, the auction showcases costumes worn by a plethora of esteemed actors and actresses, including Julie Andrews, Jude Law, Tom Hardy, Eddie Redmayne, Gwyneth Paltrow, Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes, Scarlett Johansson, Nicole Kidman, Keira Knightley, Daniel Radcliffe, Alan Rickman, Margot Robbie, Elizabeth Taylor, and Aidan Turner.

These incredible costumes have been generously donated by Cosprop to support the Bright Foundation, an arts education charity founded by the esteemed costume designer John Bright. Bright, together with costume designer Jenny Beavan, received an Academy Award for their exceptional work on the film A Room with a View.
