Würzburg – Hannover 96 has mastered the first round task in the DFB Cup with new second division competitor Würzburger Kickers.
The clearly superior Lower Saxony won 3: 2 (1: 0) on Monday evening in the spectatorless arena on Dallenberg and demonstrated the strength of the 2nd Bundesliga to the newly promoted from Lower Franconia.
Striker Hendrik Weydandt (23rd minute), captain Dominik Kaiser (59th) and defender Timo Hübers (78th) gave the guests a 3-0 lead. Arne Feick (89th) and Robert Herrmann (90th + 5) with a converted penalty kick could only shorten for Würzburg.
The former master coach Felix Magath (67), as “Head of Flyeralarm Global Soccer” responsible for Würzburg and the Austrian first division club FC Admira, saw a clearly better team of 96, which is starting the new season with great ambitions. The kickers were defensively overwhelmed. On the offensive, they remained harmless until the two late goals.
Unlike Hanover, which created a number of chances, but only used three: Weydandt easily prevailed after a long ball against Kickers captain Daniel Hägele and overcame Würzburg’s new goalkeeper Fabin Giefer with a low shot. Kaiser increased after a fine move over Genki Haraguchi and Marvin Ducksch. Kickers defense chief Hägele acted awkwardly again. Hübers’ goal after a corner underlined the class difference, even if the hosts were able to make the result even friendlier with two goals.
