NBA: Irving opposed to a recovery in Orlando

Brooklyn star Kyrie Irving took part in a conference call with the NBA and expressed his opposition to a resumption of the season scheduled for July 31 in Florida, several US media reported on Saturday.

According to ESPN and The Athletic, citing anonymous sources, the issue of racial discrimination and the current social and political climate was raised during this conference which brought together some 100 players.

“I don’t support going to play in Orlando,” Irving said according to The Athletic. “There is something that does not smell good,” added the player, withdrew until the end of the season with a right shoulder injury for which he had surgery three months ago.

Joel Embiid, Carmelo Anthony, Donovan Mitchell, Kevin Durant, Chris Paul or Dwight Howard would also have participated in this meeting according to the media.

After a four and a half month timeout due to the coronavirus, the NBA has decided to resume the current season on July 31 in Orlando (Florida), where a champion will be crowned among the 22 teams concerned.

The matches will take place behind closed doors and will take place at Disney World, more precisely on the huge “ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex” site, which has three rooms as well as hotels capable of accommodating delegations.
