On July 21 of this year, the Riga City Latgale Suburb Court made a decision to terminate the criminal proceedings on charges of shooting down musician Rolands Balozs-Udris, as a settlement was reached in the case, the agency LETA found out.

The Prosecutor General’s Office explained, without mentioning the victim’s name, that criminal proceedings were initiated on 17 January 2016 for causing a road traffic accident, as a result of which the victim suffered serious bodily injuries that were dangerous to the victim’s life. One person was charged in the case according to Section 260, Paragraph two of the Criminal Law.

The termination of the criminal proceedings on the basis of the concluded settlement was achieved because the accused person changed his attitude towards the criminal offense accused of him during the trial, ie he pleaded guilty and other persons involved in the criminal proceedings agreed to terminate the criminal proceedings.

Upon termination of the criminal proceedings on the basis of a settlement, the accused person shall not be rehabilitated. The driver pleaded guilty and agreed to pay damages. The decision is subject to appeal.

The prosecutor’s office previously explained that according to the decision to take the criminal case to court, on the road section in Riga, where the permitted speed in the settlement is 30 kilometers per hour, the accused exceeded the speed limit and drove at a speed of not less than 70 kilometers per hour. such as road works, speedboats and others, as well as the fact that the roadway was covered with snow.

When the accused noticed the pedestrian crossing the street, the driver did not reduce his speed in time and did not stop the vehicle by hitting the pedestrian. The victim suffered serious, life-threatening injuries.

As reported, on January 17, 2016, at around 15.40 in Riga, on the section of Artilērijas Street between Aleksandra Čaka and Krāsotāju streets, Ūdris ran into a car. The musician was seriously injured in the accident.
