citizen operation to plant 700 trees along the ring road

L’ONG “Foresters of the world” is organizing this Sunday March 7 a major tree planting operation on an abandoned road along the Dijon bypass, in the town of Saint-Apollinaire.

A citizen operation is taking place this Sunday, March 7 in Dijon afforestation on abandoned land, on the edge of the eastern bypass of Dijon.

A citizen operation, carried by “Forestiers du Monde”

The citizens will plant 730 trees and shrubs of 42 species from our regions, including future large trees such as oaks but also species such as wild fruit trees (wild apple trees, wild pear trees or wild plum trees, medlar, etc.) and will lay down at the foot trees and shrubs, compost and shredded material offered free of charge by the Pépinière Compostière de Rougemont.
This operation is a “afforestation biodiverse”, it is a concept developed by ONGE Forestiers du Monde and it consists in planting a wide variety of trees and shrubs of indigenous forest species according to an architecture favorable to biodiversity, on unforested land with a view to ” eventually build a forest as varied as possible.

Forestiers du Monde has also been developing this approach for more than ten years with schoolchildren.

What is the need to afforest?

As early as 1970, scientists published studies alerting public opinion to the risks engendered by consumption on the climate. In July of this year 2020, 78 French departments were hit by drought and suffered water restrictions.
The NGO calls out: “What was destroyed en masse that contributed to the balance of the climate?” The answer, according to them, is trees and their natural habitat: forests.
The forest has lost almost 100 million hectares on the planet in two decades, the forest area continues to decline (Cf. UN publication source AFP September 2020).
In addition, 80% of European biodiversity is sheltered by forests. Forests locally guarantee a more lenient climate, habitat for wildlife, and absorption of carbon dioxide (CO²), the main greenhouse gas.

The operation along the bypass validated by the Roads Department

The Interdepartmental Direction of Roads Center East (DIRCE) responded favorably to the proposal of ONGE Forestiers du Monde to initiate on an experimental basis on Sundays March 7 and 14, 2021 the biodiverse afforestation of a neglected road in the town of Saint Apollinaire.
