Circo-Circo Circus is coming to Israel Jewish Traveler and take us to peace

The day after tomorrow, Friday, April 12, the “Circo Circo” circus will open to the public at the western end of Yehoshua Gardens in Tel Aviv. Today, a final dress rehearsal was held before the opening to the audience, and we were privileged to see a stunning and amazing performance in its beauty and quality.

The performance begins with a rhythmic salsa dance performance, with the dancers dressed in spectacular colorful costumes prepared by Ella Kolesnik. (It should be noted that the dancers in the circus are not dressed in the modesty required of kosher Israeli girls).

Some of the dances were combined with gymnastic exercises, and others with a roller skating show. A juggler also appeared who amazed by throwing balls, rings and bottles and catching them.

Impressive acrobatic stunts were then performed. Acrobats created charming human pyramids.

Roller coasters appeared high above the arena and the heads of the crowd. Some of the loopers amazed and alarmed the audience when they were hoisted up into the sky with only the hairs on their heads attached to the rope. Many jaws in the audience dropped at the sight of the spirals spinning around themselves at a height close to the ceiling of the circus tent.

In one of the exciting dances, two dancers carried a flexible pole on their shoulders, on which female and male dancers danced and jumped.

The climax was towards the end of the show, in a performance of bikers who drove fast and noisily inside an iron mesh cage in the shape of a ball about the size of two stories. At first a couple of bikers rode in it, and later a third joined. They demonstrated amazing control in traveling in different styles and in different directions, and without colliding with each other and without falling. The audience was captivated.

In the middle of the motorcycle show, they stopped the ride, and one of the bikers got out of the ball. The announcer informed the audience that there had been a malfunction with the motorcycle. The crowd was excited and there was a lot of tension and concern for the biker. In those seconds the audience identified with the performance and the malfunction. A female biker entered the ball with a small motorcycle, and the crowd was happy and responded with loud applause. I would not be surprised if it turns out that this mishap was staged, to create tension and concerns in the audience.

The circus performance is exciting and fascinating for the whole family, especially for children. For children this will be an unforgettable experience. After watching it I recommend my readers to visit it during the holidays. Although I was invited for free as a journalist, but after seeing what I saw, I am preparing to take my children to the circus as well and buy fully paid entrance tickets. For your information, the ticket prices are from NIS 29 to NIS 219, depending on the location.

Doron Etzioni (Kofi), director of ‘Tabat Productions’ which brought this circus and many circuses in the past to Israel, said that the dress rehearsal we saw today was preceded by more than a month of arduous work. All the dancers, acrobats and clowns were brought to Israel from the High School of Circus in Cuba, and some of them from Colombia.

According to him, the circus was planned to open its performances in Israel in a tent erected in Be’er Sheva before October 6. The performances in Be’er Sheva were canceled because of the war, and are only now being resumed in Tel Aviv. Doron Etzioni adds that the circus will continue to perform at the Yehoshua Gardens in Tel Aviv until Saturday evening, May 18, 1918 in Ayer. Later, the circus went on tour in other cities in Israel, but the places and dates have not yet been published.
