Living & fuel again more expensive

Vienna, The prices are rising! Compared to January last year, the inflation rate was 2.0% (December: 1.7%).

Consumers had to dig deep into their pockets for fuel and rents (+2.7%, see table). Fuel prices rose by 2.7% in January; in December they were cheaper by 2.3%. Premium gasoline was even 4.8% more expensive.

Food prices rose less sharply than inflation – namely by 1.2%. The price level of the micro cart, which mainly contains food, but also coffee in the coffeehouse and reflects daily shopping, rose by 1.4% year-on-year.

Cell phones much cheaper. These important products have become significantly cheaper compared to January 2019: butter (–11.9%) and cell phones (–13.0%).
