Dacian Cioloș declared on Tuesday that USR is waiting for PNL to discuss the restoration of the governing coalition. He also said that he saw the signals given by “some PNL leaders” in the direction of a coalition with PSD and warned that such an alliance would be “toxic” because it would mean “theft of public money for local barons”.

I thought yesterday that there is a chance to rebuild the modernization coalition. Unfortunately, in the last hours we see that the intention of some PNL leaders is to throw themselves into the arms of PSD and reform the fraternity of the old parties.
Today, unfortunately, the PNL abstained from voting for the interim presidency of the Chamber of Deputies, where it had to choose between a PSD candidate and a USR one. By not involving PNL, PSD obtained the position for Sorin Grindeanu, the one who took hundreds of thousands of Romanians to the streets in 2017.
I hope to have a clarification discussion in the next period. Otherwise, a toxic PNL-PSD alliance is to be born.
Rebuilding the governing coalition would be the best solution. If the election of PNl will be PSD, then USR will join the Opposition. The USR will remain the only pro-European political force.
It is important to have a government as soon as possible, but it is equally important in which direction this government will go
A negotiation means compromises and, obviously, as we negotiated last year, a compromise to reach an agreement. USR will not compromise on Romania’s reform objectives
